Plastic Hearts is the seventh studio album by American singer Miley Cyrus. It was released on November 27, 2020. In my concept design for the Plastic Hearts tour stage, I wanted to strike a balance between the 80s punk-rock tone of the album, and Cyrus’ extravagant stage presence. The sound of the album is greatly influenced by traditional rock, so I looked to concerts of rock icons like Joan Jett and Billy Idol, both of which are featured on the album.
These stages were often very basic and didn’t shy away from showing the trusses or lighting equipment. I incoprated these elements on a grand scale to fit Cyrus’ stage persona with the edition of a mismatched, stiched fabric collage floor, massive moving LED screens, and a giant monogram which pays homage to Cyrus’ Disney background as Hannah Montana.
